HOUSTON -- At some point in the recent past, juices and smoothies crossed from an up-and-coming trend to rivaling coffee shops as a go-to destination for people who want a refreshing beverage away from home. Juice shops have popped up all over Houston, but a few stand out.
Consider JuiceLand. Over its 16 year history, the Austin-based company has grown to 19 locations in the Texas state capital and made its Houston debut last year with a location in The Heights. This week the company brought its signature juices, smoothies, and grab-and-go vegan items to Montrose. Located at 1340 Westheimer, JuiceLand takes over the space previously occupied by smoke shop Fantasy Gifts, which relocated a block or so down the street.
For those who haven't visited the Heights location, the menu features about a dozen juices, two dozen smoothies, and a selection of vegan food items. Juices and smoothies are made-to-order, so expect to wait a couple minutes while the slices of apple, avocado, carrot, and celery work their way through the juicer. According to the store, popular items include the Originator (fresh apple juice, banana, blueberry, cherry, peanut butter, etc) and the Bam Bam (fresh pineapple juice, banana, mango, etc). The space itself is pretty minimal, as one would expect, but a press release notes that it will soon offer "records and books that align with JuiceLand's vibes."
