HOUSTON (KTRK) -- From now until Thursday, students at the University of Houston are competing in a food fight of sorts.
Wolffest is taking place on campus, and the competiton pits the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship students against each other in a challenge to create the best pop up restaurant.
Juniors and seniors are grouped together and must create a startup restaurant and execute it from concept to serving paying customers on campus.
Senior Clark Neumann was assigned the CEO of his team, which came up with the restaurant La Vida Local, hoping to use all local foods. Each team must contact local food vendors and secure donations or funding to help get the restaurant started.
On day one, several of the popups ran into hiccups along the way, much like real businesses do each day. From staffing issues to running out of food, each business must resolve the issues and continue to
turn a profit.
There are also alumni on hand to judge based on quality of food, the signage and storefront appearance, and customer service.
At the end of the three-day event, a winning restaurant will be chosen on who ultimately makes the most money. All of the money raised will go towards the school. The winner is announced at graduation.
