A big beer festival is planned for this weekend on Galveston Island.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Craft breweries across southeast Texas can't wait until this weekend's big festival.

The "6th Annual Brewmasters Craft Beer Festival" kicks off this Friday at Moody Gardens in Galveston. The event gives beer lovers the chance to taste more than 400 specialty brews along with other activities.

Eyewitness News caught up with two separate breweries in Houston who are ready to show off their best product. Lennie Ambrose with Saint Arnold's Brewing Company said he welcomes all the competitors.

Ambrose explained Saint Arnold's opened back in 1994, long before "craft beer" became a common term. He said the industry just keeps growing across our region.

"Now I think we're to the point that they're going to keep opening and growing. Then we're going to see who makes really good beer and then it's going to thin out a little bit," said Ambrose. "We, as craft brewers, honestly want everyone to make good beer even our competitors because if people are trying craft beer for the first time and they have one at a brewery and it's not good ... then that may be their exit to craft beer."

The 8th Wonder Brewery in the East District said a passion drives their brewmasters to create "the freshest, most flavorful ales" around town. They too said they're excited about the "Brewmasters Craft Beer Festival."
