Security breach reported at Houstonian Hotel

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Houstonian Hotel may have been the victim of a cyber attack, and now they're letting their patrons know their credit card numbers may have been compromised.

In a letter sent to hotel guests, the Houstonian states they were notified June 10 by the U.S. Secret Service of the cyber attack on its credit card processing system.

The hotel did not specify how many people may have been affected by the breach but says credit cards used between December 28, 2013 and June 20 at The Houstonian Hotel, Trellis Spa, Center Court Cafe, Sports Shop, Arbor Grill, Manor House and Olivette were compromised. However, membership accounts, as well as the items and services charged to them, were not affected.

The Houstonian says as soon as it was notified of the attack, it took "immediate steps to secure our facilities." The hotel says it has already replaced its breached systems with other ones and hired a data forensics firm to help us enhance our digital security.

The hotel is urging everyone to take precautions.

"We are urging guests of The Houstonian who visited us during that time to please carefully review their accounts," a prepared statement from the hotel read.
