TATAOUINE, Tunisia (KTRK) -- A community near a huge piece of film history is entering the battle against Islamic State terrorists, CNN reports.

The set used for the "Star Wars" films, depicting the desert planet of Tattooine, is named for the nearby real-life city of Tataouine, in the Tunisian desert.

George Lucas filmed iconic scenes from the original "Star Wars" on location in Tunisia, and he returned for later movies in the series.

Tunisian authorities say the region has shown increasing activity among ISIS terrorists and supporters, as it's close to the Libyan border.

The famous film set is still a tourist draw for the region.
