What happens if school is cancelled because of Harvey?
Depending on how many days are missed, the Texas Education Agency has different guidelines for school systems to follow when they miss school for any reason.

With Hurricane Harvey headed for the southeast Texas coast and expected to make landfall Friday, some school districts have found themselves with cancelled classes very early in the school year. So how will these days be made up?

The Texas Education Agency has guidelines for school systems to follow, and they depend on how many days are missed.

If two days or fewer are missed, the time must be made up no matter the reason. School systems can choose to do so on designated makeup days, or extra time can be added onto the end of the school day.

If more than two days are missed, school systems can apply for a waiver from the Texas Education Agency.
