Celebrating healthy school lunches
Houston Independent School District explores healthy options during "National Healthy School Lunch Week"

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Inside classrooms across southeast Texas, lessons now center around healthy eating habits. The Houston Independent School District told Eyewitness News nutrition is an important part of the curriculum especially during "National School Lunch Week." The program hopes to give students access to nutritionally-balanced meals at school.

However, in a world of junk food, school officials recognize they face an uphill battle. HISD told us they rolled out their "Nutrition Services Culinary Team" to middle school classrooms yesterday and today. The team proves education classes and cooking demonstrations to help students learn how what they put in their mouths impact their bodies. Our own Steve Campion caught up with the HISD team to sample some of the activities.
