HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Inside Barbara Jordan High, two teams of emerging culinary students are serving their very best.
They stepped up to the challenge of being able to create dishes with a budget of $1.35 and having to keep it nutritional.
On Bria Johnson's team, fish tacos with cabbage and a kick of Sriracha is the main entree. They also prepared a side of spicy beans and a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and apples.
On the opposing team the star entree is blackened chicken with Alfredo pasta, fresh salad and a parfait.
On Saturday, they'll go head-to-head for the Cooking up Change Competition, a program that's putting students at the forefront of changing and elevating school lunches.
If they win, you know this meal will actually go into the school cafeteria rotation next year.
The winner in Houston will head to the nation's capital in June to compete with for the big prize.
The winners will have the honor of serving their dish to members of Congress.
Last year, HISD's Westside High won.
