H-E-B issues voluntary recall for spiced meats

SAN ANTONIO, TX (KTRK) -- We have a consumer alert that may prompt you to check your refrigerator.

H-E-B says certain spiced meats may contain undeclared peanut allergens in the seasoning. These products are bulk cryovac and tray packed Chorizo and H-E-B cryovac Pork Al Pastor.

There have been no reported illnesses related to this precautionary recall, but according to the recall, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if consumed.

Customers can return the products for a full refund.

Products being recalled include:

  • H-E-B Bulk Tray Pack Chorizo - Random Weight Sell By 11/4/2014 through Sell By 12/28/14
  • H-E-B Retail Tray Pack Chorizo - Random Weight Sell By 10/25/2014 through 1/4/2015
  • H-E-B Cryovac Pork Al Pastor - Random Weight Sell By 10/31/2014 through 1/9/2015

H-E-B was notified of this issue on December 26 when Adams Food Flavors and Ingredients announced that one of the spice blend ingredient components had tested positive for peanut residue.
