HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Texas goes to a one-sticker system for cars.
A separate sticker for your car registration and inspection goes away in 2015.
The State Department of Motor Vehicles is calling it the "Texas Two Step," but it will most likely leave a lot of motorists tripping over their feet as they figure out how to navigate the new system.
The good news is you will only have to remember one date, as your registration date and inspection date will be the same. The bad news is that there will be some confusion until everyone's registration date and inspection dates are synchronized.
The date to remember is March 1, 2015. No inspection sticker will be issued after that date.
After that date, there are two scenarios that motorists face. If your registration expires before your inspection sticker expires, you won't have to get a new inspection until the following year. If your inspection sticker expires before your registration, you will have to get your car inspected. You will be given a receipt of your inspection and the information will be sent to the DMV. When you go to renew your registration, the State will know you passed your inspection and issue you a registration sticker. You will be allowed to have your car inspected up to 90 days before your registration is due.
