Gas prices could fall to $1 a gallon this year

How low will gasoline prices go this year? According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is at $1.96.

In ten southern states, residents are paying $1.75 or less.

A USAToday.com story reports in some states that a gallon of regular gasoline has dropped to $1.42. Tumbling oil prices combined with strong refinery capacity could push the price of gas to $1.00 a gallon in some areas.

That hasn't happened since 1999.
