CYPRESS, TX (KTRK) -- The first fist-fight of the year at Cypress Lakes High school drew quite a crowd. The video of it has gone viral.

The fight happened between classes in a hallway Monday morning. The video, several versions of which have been posted online and on social media, shows two separate fights at the same time involving four female students as one male student oddly dances in the middle.

"It was punching, slapping hair pulling, rolling on the ground," described sophomore Brandon Smith, who recorded it from a balcony. "You can just see them fighting on the ground and everybody was giving them space. There's a big crowd around them. The teachers were trying to push everybody out of the way to get to them."

It's unclear what led to the fight, but one student says it started with name calling on social media. Teachers and a police officer quickly broke it up. No one was arrested.

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD released this statement:

"We are extremely disappointed to see this type of behavior. This is not a representation of the pride our students take in themselves and our campus. The altercation was quickly broken up by staff and the students involved were disciplined according to the student code of conduct."

A district spokeswoman couldn't be more specific about punishment, citing privacy issues.

Some students and parents weren't that surprised by the violence.

"It happens everywhere but school, school just started. That shouldn't be going on," said mother Regina Hogan.

In 2014, a teen was shot during an after-school fight near Cypress Lakes High School that students said started at school.
