At about 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to a call for service at a Dollar General located in the 2000 block of FM 1960 West.

The caller told deputies a man, identified as Roderick Brooks, assaulted a store employee who attempted to stop him from shoplifting.

Investigators said a HCSO patrol sergeant spotted Brooks and attempted to stop him a short distance from the store. A short foot chase took place before the sergeant caught up to Brooks and attempted to deploy a taser that was not effective.
