The Texans were not interested in trading for Romo and were waiting to see if he would be released by the Cowboys.
After the news broke, NFL France and many others had some harsh words for the Texans.
If you missed that day in French class, it reads "Rest in peace @HoustonTexans."
Despite what France may think (what do they know about football anyway), the Texans aren't dead on arrival yet.
Now that Romo is out, will Bill O'Brien turn to a more Savage course of action or find himself a new quarterback?
If the Texans do opt for someone new, where will they find them? The 2017 NFL Draft has some prospects, but the draft lacks in ready-to-play talent at quarterback, which could lead Houston to consider some free agents.

If the Texans want experience, he has the resume.
Cutler has passed for over 32,000 yards in his career and is still just 34 years old. While that isn't young by quarterback standards, it also doesn't represent a quarterback at the very end of his career.
While his career has been marked by a series of peaks and valleys, Cutler can perform on a team with a competent defense.
From 2010-12, when the Bears' defense was the strength of their team, Cutler guided them to a 27-13 record. He won the seventh-most games in that span, despite the fact that he missed eight games.
There is also concern with how Cutler would mesh with the Texans' coaching staff, something especially important given the reported arguments between O'Brien and Osweiler last season.
Kaepernick threw 16 touchdown passes last season against just four interceptions, but the Texans think they have a better option in Savage. Of course, there has been much conjecture about why Kaepernick does not have a job yet.
Has Kaepernick been unable to find a team due to his political activism or his performance? Kaepernick is just 29 years old and has led his team to the Super Bowl in 2013, in the year after to the NFC Championship game and he has four playoff victories in his career.
However, his recent performance leaves much to be desired. Kaepernick went 3-16 over the past two seasons and completed 59.8 percent of his passes.
Will there be a home coming of sorts? A few free agents could be looking to return to Texas.
Veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick started 12 games for O'Brien in 2014 with decent results and could be the best bridge option available behind Savage.
Some have called Fitzpatrick O'Brien's best quarterback in Houston, which isn't exactly a stiff competition or really an endorsement.
Fitzpatrick threw six interceptions in one game last season, which could have Texans fans missing Osweiller.
Could the Baylor Heisman Trophy winner make his way back to the Lone Star state? The former Pro Bowler, Heisman Trophy winner, and AP Offensive Rookie of the Year showed serious potential as a rookie in Washington, but he fell to injury late in the season and was never the same man since.
Playing only five games in the 2016 season, Griffin threw two touchdowns and three interceptions. His 177 yards per game were the worst of his career.

Johnny Manziel
Most Texans fans would roll their eyes at acquiring Johnny Football and for good reason.
Johnny Manziel says he has achieved sobriety and is determined to resume his career in the NFL.
He says he needs just, "one team to believe in me, and I'll do anything to make that a possibility."
Could the Texans be that team? Probably not.
Manziel, whom the Browns selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, spent 10 weeks in rehab after his rookie season. He was suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Manziel faced the threat of an additional suspension as the NFL investigated whether he violated its personal-conduct policy. But his 2016 season effectively ended last March, when the Browns released him.
Manziel reached an agreement last month with the Dallas County district attorney's office to have domestic violence charges dropped if he meets certain conditions throughout the year. He was accused of hitting and threatening his former girlfriend during a night out last January.
