Officials said at about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, the skater, identified by family as 46-year-old Christopher Milo, was riding along the Harrisburg Hike and Bike Trail with a friend when he crashed into someone driving a dark-colored Cadillac on Norwood Street.
The friend reportedly called 911, but Milo was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance video obtained by ABC13 shows the driver of the car stopping several blocks away from the crash. He gets out of the car, checks the front of his vehicle, which appears to be smoking, then drives off.
Family members tell ABC13 that Milo, while in his 40's, lived his life like someone decades younger. They said he embraced the skating community. Sometimes on an electric skateboard, relatives said they were not surprised he was out late at night. However, they are shocked that someone would hit him and not stop.
The accident was captured on surveillance video by Open Door Mission, whose building is across the street from where the crash occurred. The mission says it has turned over the video to the Houston Police Department. In addition, it's likely that METRO light rail cameras also captured some elements of those involved.
