The City of Bellaire told ABC13 there was a major water main break at 10 a.m. Tuesday at S. Rice Avenue and Pine Street along a pre-existing water line project. As a result, Bellaire High School and Horn Elementary were without water.
Water was restored early at Horn Elementary School. By the afternoon, crews were still working to restore water for the high school, city officials said. Just before 4 p.m., officials said water at the high school was restored as well.
HISD sent the following statement regarding the issue, saying in part that "HISD worked closely with District maintenance teams and the City of Bellaire throughout the day and communicated directly with families through ParentSquare."
The district also mentioned that bottled water was delivered to the high school and lunch was served as scheduled. HISD said it also put temporary measures in place to support essential campus operations.
It's unclear if water was restored to other residents in the area.
ABC13 will continue to update this story as more details become available.
