ABC13 crews captured the active scene near Ella Boulevard in northwest Harris County early Monday morning.
Deputies said this all stemmed from a parking lot takeover near Veterans Memorial Drive. They said they were called out to the scene just after 11 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a driver doing donuts in the parking lot.
Inside the car were as many as five people, with most of them likely being juveniles, the sheriff's office said.
"The patrol unit tried to do a traffic stop on the vehicle to stop the behavior. This vehicle fled from law enforcement officers," Capt. Aric Albers with HCSO said.
That's when deputies said the driver took off at a high rate of speed south on Ella Boulevard before losing control and crashing near Westfield High School.
"While it was driving, the driver of the vehicle turned his headlights off - of course, during nighttime hours here - and at this location, it looks like they failed to drive in a single lane and probably didn't see the curb, which is in the median of this roadway on Ella Boulevard," Albers said. "The vehicle ended up turning over, rotating onto its roof, its side, and back to its regular standing up position."
One teenager inside the crashed vehicle died at the scene, and three others were taken to the hospital, HCSO said.
Deputies said they were at the hospital interviewing those three teens who survived and are still looking for a fifth juvenile who was in the car and reportedly fled on foot.
The sheriff's office said it's still trying to determine who was driving.
