The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said deputies, along with officers from the Splendora Police Department and Texas DPS, responded to an assault with a firearm call at about 5 p.m. in the 15800 block of East Relza Drive.
Authorities said when deputies arrived, they discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds. After life-saving measures were attempted and administered, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Authorities identified the victim as 41-year-old William Warhol III. Investigators said the suspect, who was identified as 42-year-old Eric Ross Fergeson, was taken into custody. Fergeson is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail and is charged with murder, MCSO said.
Officials said the initial investigation indicates that Warhol and Fergeson knew each other and had mutual friends. Investigators said that an unrelated vehicle accident earlier on Thursday led to escalating tensions between the two men. Detectives said the encounter began as a verbal altercation that later turned violent.
MCSO said its major crimes detectives and crime scene investigators are continuing the investigation.
