Man shot and killed during fight at store in Bacliff, Galveston County deputies say

BACLIFF, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect was arrested after a man was shot to death during a fight in Galveston County, according to deputies.

The Galveston County Sheriff's Office said the deadly shooting happened on Wednesday at about 1:30 a.m. at the Meera Food n Meat Supermarket on Grand Avenue in Bacliff.

Chief Deputy Melencio Villarreal told ABC13 that a verbal argument turned physical and ended with one of the men being shot in the chest.

"Deputies, when they arrived, they arrived pretty quickly because we have a substation right here," Villarreal said.

Villarreal said the entire encounter happened inside the store with two other shoppers.



Deputies said the bystanders were not injured, but the man who was shot died from his wounds.

The shooting suspect was arrested at the scene, and an investigation is underway to determine possible charges.
