According to the METRO Police Department, a bus driver called police at 7:39 a.m. to report a disturbance with a weapon on a METRO bus at the intersection of S. Gesser Road and Bellaire Boulevard.
Investigators said a man in his 80s who was armed with a semi-automatic pistol fired at least one shot while on the bus.
When police arrived, he was taken into custody and officers recovered the pistol. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
SkyEye video from above the scene shows a man getting off the bus with his hands up and walking toward METRO police. Several other people were also seen exiting the bus.
"There were some passengers on the bus, and because of the fast decision-making process, our bus operator, she was quickly able to open the door to let all the passengers out," METRO PD Chief Ban Tien said. "So, no one was injured as a result of the incident."
Tien said the investigation into what exactly led up to the shooting is ongoing.
"There seems to be some sort of language barrier. So we are still going through the process of trying to find out," Tien said.
The northbound lanes of S. Gessner were blocked as police investigated the scene.
