Medical board members stated that Doctor Azul Shiraz Jaffer's suspension took effect immediately on Dec. 30 after determining that he posed a threat to patients.

In a release on Tuesday, the TMB said they found that Dr. Jaffer's alleged constant drug and alcohol use interferes with his ability to practice medicine safely.
A temporary suspension hearing with notice will be held as soon as possible with 10 days' notice to Dr. Jaffer unless he specifically waives the hearing, the TMB said.
ABC13 previously reported that Jaffer's license was still active at the time of his arrest on Dec. 22.
Houston Methodist Sugar Land told ABC13 that it had suspended Jaffer's privileges as a result of an investigation into the accusations against him.
