TOMBALL, Texas (KTRK) -- Tomball is expecting a major power outage and road closures on Wednesday, according to city officials.

In a statement, the City of Tomball announced that a scheduled power outage will begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday while replacements are made to poles, transformers, and power lines in the 100-400 block of W. Main Street.

This power outage will impact residents and businesses one block north and two blocks south of Main Street between Pine Street and Elm Street, the statement says.

The maintenance will also close alleys, officials say, along Commerce Street, Market and Fannin Streets, between Elm and Pine, causing traffic impacts in the area.

According to the statement, Main Street (FM 2920) will remain open in both directions, but motorists should be prepared for delays.

The city also advised that Oak Street, Cherry Street, Walnut Street, and Elm Street between Commerce Street and Fannin Street will be closed to all traffic. North and southbound traffic from Main Street will be diverted at Pine Street, the statement added.

The city also said that approximately 65 to 70 utility trucks will be working in the area.

CenterPoint crews will make every effort to limit the outage to less than eight hours, according to the statement.

City officials said that questions should be directed to CenterPoint Energy at (713) 207-2222.
