Deputies said the burglary happened on South Plum Crest Circle on Friday at 10 a.m.
According to the MCSO, multiple men forced their way into a house and took money and valuables.
Investigators said the suspects were wearing black shirts with the word "sheriff" on them, adding that one suspect even appeared to be wearing a badge.
The homeowners told Eyewitness News that no one was injured in the brazen burglary, but the hunt is now on for the law enforcement impersonators.
The sheriff's office shared tips to help distinguish bad actors from real law enforcement officers:
- Real officers will typically have clearly marked vehicles and uniforms
- Ask for a unit or badge number; they'll gladly provide one
- Call the non-emergency dispatch to confirm that deputies were sent to your home
The MCSO urged anyone in the area who may have surveillance footage taken between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to reach out to them.
