According to the Richmond Police Department, officers responded to the single-vehicle crash in the 31000 block of Bayound Bend Drive at about 3:30 a.m.
Investigators said multiple people were inside the off-road UTV at the time of the crash and that a 33-year-old woman was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. The woman was later pronounced dead, officials said. Police have not revealed the identity of the victim.
Authorities said 38-year-old Sean Berkley was operating the UTV at the time and that, according to initial information, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers said that they also received information that indicated that alcohol was a contributing factor to the incident.
Police said that officers took Berkley into custody at about 5:15 a.m. and charged him with intoxicated manslaughter, adding that they served a search warrant to take a blood specimen from Berkley.
Richmond PD said the investigation remains ongoing, with assistance from the Lake Jackson Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
