HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KTRK) -- Neighbors to Huntsville State Park may see smoke in the air as the park undergoes a weeklong prescribed burn starting Monday, park officials said.
Officials say ignitions are planned for daylight hours starting Monday, March 23, and lasting through Friday, March 27.
Neighboring communities may see smoke for a few days after, but prolonged smoke is not expected, officials said.
Officials added that park visitors should expect several trail closures, but camping reservations are not expected to be affected.
Huntsville State Park says the primary goal of the project is to reduce the threat of wildland fire to adjacent communities, reduce the amount of fuel available in the area, and help maintain an ecosystem adapted to periodic fire.
