MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A funeral procession will be held for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputy who was hit and killed last month while investigating a suspected drunk driving crash.

The procession is expected to begin at about 8:30 a.m., and drivers could expect some delays due to temporary road closures.

Several will gather at the procession for Deputy Erika Serrato, 24, who was assisting at the scene of a DWI-related crash on the northbound lanes of I-45 when she was hit by a commercial utility vehicle around 3:40 a.m., according to Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle.

Serrato was providing traffic cover for officers with the Oak Ridge Police Department about 30 minutes after the initial crash when the second collision occurred, investigators said.

Serrato died at the scene. A second deputy, John Hernandez, was struck by debris and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening.

The deputy began her career with the sheriff's office as a detention officer at 18 years old before becoming a commissioned deputy earlier in 2026. She had been assigned to patrol for about six months.

The driver of the commercial vehicle, identified as 20-year-old Ian Perez, has since been charged with passing certain vehicles and causing bodily harm. The drivers of the initial DWI crash were also arrested and charged in the case.

Officials said the procession will begin at the Cashner Funeral Home and follow the route as listed: Starting on FM 3083, southbound on I-45, and westbound on College Park Drive until it concludes at the Woodlands Church on One Fellowship Drive.
