HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police said they still don't know who killed 23-year-old Nicholas Hood near a METRO bus stop on Saturday night.

The shooting happened on North Main Street, just steps from the popular Jackson's Barbershop, where Hood is said to have been employed.

"It's really still unbelievable cause he's a good dude," Dr. Duece, Hood's coworker, said.

Dr. Duece said he was at home when he got the call from a neighbor Saturday night. Police were at the barbershop, looking for someone who knew the victim of a deadly shooting.

"He's not a bad person. He's a good person, good dude, well-mannered and spoken," Duece said.

Dr. Duece said the day of the shooting, Hood had cut hair at the shop, and was giving back to the community by booking several unhoused clients as well.

"He had good energy, that's how he caught my attention," Duece said.

Houston police said just after 9 p.m., Hood was standing at a nearby METRO bus stop, on FaceTime with his girlfriend, when someone approached him. Police said the conversation seemed normal, until he took off running. Investigators said the girlfriend was able to track the phone, and she found Hood near the bus stop, shot to death.

"He spoke highly of his girl, and they was good...to know that's what happened," Duece said.

Hood's girlfriend was still too overcome to speak with Eyewitness News, but Dr. Duece said he has faith the shooter can be found.

"Karma is going to hit, whoever he was. Karma going to hit, that was a good...one of the best young cats I ever met in my life," Dr. Duece said.

Dr. Duece said Nicholas was known to write affirmations in his notebooks, and that he had been working here about six months, but he already felt like family.

Houston police say they don't have a suspect description or motive yet. They are asking anyone with information to contact the homicide division or Crime Stoppers.
