According to the department, officers responded to the residence on West Alabama near Brandt at around 9 p.m. on Thursday.
HPD Lt. A. Ali said there were four occupants inside the home who told officers the suspect forced his way in and started to threaten them.
"We discovered that all four occupants were safely able to exit the location and gave us information that the suspect was still inside," the lieutenant added.
Ali said the suspect at first wouldn't comply with officers' commands to leave the home.
Once additional units were called in, the suspect was eventually taken into custody. Ali said the district attorney's office accepted charges against the suspect, but did not say what those charges would be.
Ali said it appears the suspect had met one of the home's occupants through a dating site.
"From what we're being told, the suspect met with one of the occupants at the location through some sort of dating site, and a couple of days later just showed up to the location," Ali said.
Officials said no one was hurt in the incident.
