According to Hitchcock Mayor Chris Armacost, the outage was reported on Thursday afternoon.
The outage was caused by a TxDOT contractor hitting a 6-inch line that connects to an 8-inch water line along Highway 6.
Hitchcock crews could not isolate the line near Good Ole Days Park, so they had to expand their repair area to get pressure off the line, officials said.
Armacost urged residents to keep their water use at a minimum for at least two hours after 3:45 p.m.
A public notice posted by officials says that the maintenance is necessary to improve the reliability of the city's water system.
