Aaron Grant, 38, was convicted of shooting Jesse Metzger on January 27.
Investigators said Metzger was found shot by his friends near his motorcycle in a Home Depot parking lot on the North Freeway at Holzwarth Road just after midnight.
Officials said that the man was returning from dinner when he called friends and told them that he was being followed by someone in a white Jeep Compass.

However, while driving, he encountered Grant on the North Freeway. Police said Grant pulled parallel to Metzger and then fired a shot. Officials said the victim had been hit in his arm before it entered a body cavity.
He was later pronounced dead, officials said.
Officials did not say what transpired between the two that led up to the shooting.
Grant was arrested and placed on a $200,000 bond before ultimately being convicted.
This wasn't the first time that Grant had a run-in with the police. In 2011, he was accused of choking his then-common-law wife. Court records show Grant entered into a pretrial diversion program for veterans. After completing the program, the choking charges against him were dropped.
Court records said that he pleaded guilty to two additional charges of continuous violence against family, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, court records said.
