Body found by employee near Attucks Middle School, investigation underway, HISD says

HISD confirmed in an email to ABC13 that the incident is unrelated to the school and that no threat was posed to students or staff.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An investigation is underway after an employee discovered a body in a field next to Attucks Middle School in southeast Houston, according to the district.

In a statement to ABC13, Houston Independent School District said the body was found in a remote area near the school during a routine maintenance check.

SkyEye13 flew over the active scene, where officers could be seen searching a field behind the school.

HISD said the Houston Police Department responded and is leading the investigation.

Authorities did not immediately say who died or the circumstances surrounding the person's death.

HISD said Attucks M.S. was placed on a secure hold for 10 minutes until the scene was cleared. It was confirmed that the incident was unrelated to the school and all students and staff were unharmed.
