GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two people were hospitalized after a fire broke out at a warehouse on the east end of Galveston Island Wednesday night, officials said.
According to the Galveston Fire Department, the blaze started just before 9 p.m. on Wharf Road, and multiple fire crews from the area responded. Video from the ground showed huge flames shooting from the structure, as people at nearby UTMB looked on from the windows.
Galveston Fire Battalion Chief Tim Johnson said one Galveston firefighter and a man in a wheelchair who happened to be nearby were taken to the hospital. He said a dog was also rescued.
Crews were seen dousing two buildings with water on Thursday morning to ensure there are no flare-ups. Johnson said the warehouse appears to be a shrimping business.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but video showed the two structures next to each other were destroyed.
