3 people hospitalized after vehicle flew off Southwest Freeway NB near Beltway 8, authorities say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Major traffic backups for drivers on the southwest side of Houston after deputies say a vehicle fell from the HOV lane onto the Southwest Freeway on Wednesday, according to Lt. Terry Garza with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.



According to Garza, the vehicle crash prompted the freeway to close along the northbound lanes of IH-69 Southwest Freeway at Beltway 8.

According to METRO Police Department, preliminary information indicates that a driver lost control of the vehicle, hit the HOV barrier, then became airborne and landed on the main lanes below.

According to HPD Lt. Larry Crowson, there were three women inside the car, who were taken to a hospital, and all are expected to survive.



The northbound main lanes of U.S. 59 are closed between West Bellfort and Beltway 8 as first responders are on the scene, according to law enforcement.
