According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office Roadway Management, the crash happened on the southbound lanes and has caused the complete closure of IH-610.
Officials said on social media that at least six cars are involved.
Houston TranStar cameras show traffic at a standstill as crews worked at the wreckage.
Both the Houston Police Department and the Houston Fire Department are on scene, officials said.
It is unclear whether there were any injuries or how long it would take to clear the scene.
