The pursuit started over a car that was stolen earlier this month. The owner of the stolen car thought he spotted it and reported it to officers, who tried to perform a traffic stop.

The driver took off, and led officers on a high speed pursuit for about 10 minutes.
The driver lost control and crashed into a tree on Evergreen near Kernel. The car burst into flames and police say the driver was trapped inside. Officers pulled the man out of the vehicle and started CPR, but they weren't able to save him.
The man has been identified only as a Hispanic male in his late 20s to early 30s. No one else was injured in the chase or crash.
Just a month ago, a woman was fatally hit by a car as she ran across I-10 following a pursuit. Harris County Sheriff's deputies chased suspects in a van across Houston's west side.

Eventually, the van crashed on the feeder road and two men and a woman jumped out. The suspects ran across the freeway, and the woman was hit by a car as deputies were in pursuit.
