At about 2:05 p.m., the Montgomery County Dispatch Center received a call about a man jumping off a pontoon boat to swim south of the bridge on FM 1097 near the Bentwater Subdivision.
The witness told investigators the man, identified as 55-year-old Jesus Cabrera, struggled in the water as the boat drifted further away.
Officials said Cabrera's family jumped in the water and pulled him back onto the boat.

First responders performed life-saving measures before taking the man to a command center where EMS personnel was available.
Cabrera was pronounced dead by medical personnel at about 3:15 p.m.
Constable Philip Cash sent his condolences to the family and warns everyone to use life safety equipment in a boat or while being in the water.
"No matter your expertise in the water, life jackets, or personal flotation devices save lives," Cash said in a press release.
