HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police are investigating a mid-afternoon shooting on the city's southwest side that led to a woman's death.

Police tweeted Wednesday that Westside officers responded to a shooting call in the 3400 block of Woodchase.

Det. Sgt. Matthew Brady with HPD's Homicide Division said around 1 p.m., a 36-year-old woman was in an apartment unit and was shot multiple times. Another woman in the apartment at the time of the shooting called 911.

Investigators believe the woman who was killed was expecting someone to arrive. When the woman answered the door, the suspect started shooting.

"The suspect was shooting in the hallway (of the apartment unit) and out the door," Detective Sgt. Brady said.

He added investigators believe the suspect and the victim were possibly acquaintances or knew of each other. Investigators said surveillance cameras from the apartment complex may have captured the shooting, but would not release any additional information, due to the pending investigation.

This case was the third shooting in a short span of time Wednesday afternoon. Officers were called to another incident in southeast Houston at nearly the same time, where a man was found shot to death.

Just an hour prior, at least one HPD officer opened fire on a suspect in northeast Houston, injuring the man in the leg.
