Houston building looks like 8-bit video game monster

Monday, December 12, 2016
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An ABC13 viewer says she sees what appears to be a video game monster hiding along the Houston skyline.

Mary Wilken-Myers is new to the area and wrote in to Eyewitness News.

She's been watching ABC13 since she arrived, and says she's dumbfounded by what appears behind Tom Koch and his fellow anchors each day: the supposed image of an 8-bit monster attacking the city.

Mary, we are happy to report that the city is okay.

What you are actually seeing is the top of the Heritage Plaza skyscraper.

The building has been around since 1987, and was designed by Houston-based M. Nasr (Naser) and Partners.

The architects say the granite top of the building is supposed to resemble a Mayan pyramid, and was influenced by a trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, according to Emporis.

The building's lobby was also influenced by Mexican architecture.

At 762 feet tall, it is the fifth tallest building in Houston, eighth tallest in Texas and 60th tallest in the United States.

In all, there are 52 floors of offices, and a food court inside.
