HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A man pushing a wheelchair was rushed to the hospital after he was injured in a hit-and-run in northwest Harris County, deputies said.

Deputies were called to Barker Cypress Road near W. Little York just after 8 p.m. Tuesday, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said the man was pushing a wheelchair in the outside lane, heading northbound. At some point, a driver in an unknown vehicle hit the man, but kept going, deputies said.

Deputies at the scene said that stretch of Barker Cypress does not have a shoulder. They also said it was dark, so the driver may not have seen the man.

"This section of Barker Cypress Road, during dark time, is not lighted. There are no street lamps providing light, so it's dark, and that wheelchair did not have any reflective markings or lighting on the rear," Sgt. Beau Beaty said.

The man was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, HCSO said.
