The man said he shot the stranger once. The intruder, who deputies said was around 35 years old, was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
"Our preliminary investigation shows that this individual was inside the apartment. When the homeowners arrived home, they found this individual inside the apartment," Sgt. Jason Brown said. "The homeowner shot this individual one time then contacted authorities, told us what had happened."
HCSO said the intruder was also armed. He reportedly has multiple warrants out of Harris County.

Deputies investigating the scene said they found no sign of forced entry, and that it appears the man let himself into the apartment through the unlocked front door.
Investigators said at this point, the man and his girlfriend are cooperating with the investigation and don't expect any charges to be filed.
