HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A man was reportedly shot to death in front of his north Harris County apartment Friday afternoon.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to the shooting at the Palms at Cypress Station apartment complex around noon.

The agency has not released the victim's name.

Sgt. Ben Beall told ABC13 he was 47 years old and Hispanic. He had been shot multiple times.

Beall said the shooting occurred just steps from the victim's unit, inside a courtyard.

According to Beall, there were no eyewitnesses, but surveillance footage captured some of the incident.

"(The footage) led us to a possible suspect," he explained.

Beall identified the suspect as the victim's neighbor. Other residents said the men had been fighting the night before the shooting.

"That ended just with them arguing. No violence was (there) at that time, so we're looking to talk to that person," he said.

Beall said investigators were still working to determine why the two men were arguing.

He said the suspect fled the complex after the shooting.

As of 3 p.m., investigators were waiting on a warrant to search his apartment. He said they were also looking to interview another resident who helped him leave.

Beall called the neighborhood a high-crime area. A public information officer for the sheriff's office told ABC13 this is the second homicide in the area of Cypress Station and Hollow Tree in 2023.
