Man killed in armored car sting suspected in car dealership owner's murder

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- During a detention hearing yesterday, an FBI special agent revealed in court that the man killed in a recent armored car sting involving HPD -- Redrick Batiste -- was under investigation for money courier killings and the murder of Joseph Stewart, the owner of the Stewart Cadillac dealership, Eyewitness News has learned.

Batiste, 37, was shot and killed by a Houston police officer as the men allegedly moved in to rob the armored car in east Houston last week.

The U.S. Attorney's Office-Southern District of Texas confirmed the FBI special agent's statements on the stand.

Stewart, 55, was found shot to death inside his garage in May 2015.
