FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Nearly four years after a Fort Bend County father was shot and killed in his own home in the middle of the night, an arrest has been made.

In a press conference with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, officials said the suspect was 17 years old at the time of the murder.

Jadon Ezra Carpy, who is now 21, is charged with murder. He was arrested on Feb. 23, 2023, nearly four years after 29-year-old Brenton Estorffe's death.

Carpy's bond was set at $350,000, but his attorneys, Mark White and Dick DeGuerin, are requesting it to be lowered to $50,000. DeGuerin is known for representing clients such as David Koresh and Robert Durst.

Court records show Carpy has an open warrant out of Harris County. He was charged in April 2022 with possession of a prohibited weapon and reportedly violated bond in February 2023 when his GPS device went into a prohibited area, and he didn't answer calls from the monitoring service.

The suspect also has a previous arrest from 2021, but the charge was dismissed, court records show.

On Oct. 16, 2019, Estorffe, his wife, and two young children were asleep in their home in the 6900 block of Glen Rosa Drive when investigators said Carpy broke in through a window.

Estorffe was shot to death when Carpy and possibly other intruders confronted the father. Investigators said it all happened right in front of Estorffe's wife and children.

When his wife called 911 she told the dispatcher, "Someone just broke into my house and shot my husband."

The dispatcher then asked, "Is the person that shot your husband... is he still there?"

"No, I don't think so. But I'm so scared," the wife replied.

"To die in the honor of protecting his family, I feel very proud of that. The only thing I don't feel proud about is it shouldn't have been him." his father, Mike Estorffe, told ABC13.

Update expected in 2019 murder of Katy father during home invasion

"It's extremely tragic that he was murdered on his 29th birthday, in his home, in front of his family," Lt. Scott Heinemeyer said.

Investigators were tight-lipped about the evidence in the case but did say Carpy was tied to a vehicle that officials said they were looking for back in 2019.

"We do believe that there is quite a bit of evidence and information, in this case, to identify Mr. Carpy as a suspect in the case," Heinemeyer said.
During Thursday's press conference, officials wouldn't say if they believed the attack was targeted or random. Although an arrest has been made and someone is charged with Estorffe's murder, investigators believe there are still more suspects out there.

"We've got one, but where are the others?" Mike Estorffe asked.

As for the remaining suspects, officials did not provide any information about who they are looking for.

"We fully intend to bring any person that's culpable for the murder of Mr. Brenton Estorffe to justice," Heinemeyer said.

Mike Estorffe told ABC13 he wants the death penalty.

"These people are not worthy of living in our societies," he said.
