The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has identified the man as 63-year-old Gary Dwayne Gipson. His cause of death is still unknown.
According to HPD, bicyclists riding along the bayou in the area of Travis and Commerce spotted the floating body at about 10:55 a.m.
Gipson showed no obvious signs of trauma.
Police urge anyone with information on what may have happened to the victim to contact HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
