LA MARQUE, Texas (KTRK) -- The La Marque Fire Marshal is looking into two suspected arson-related cases that occurred at two houses a block away from each other early Sunday morning.

It happened at about 2:40 a.m. A family in their home located in the 2900 block of Magnolia smelled the odor of gasoline and called 911, according to Fire Marshal Brennan Briggs.

As La Marque police were en route to the Magnolia scene, they noticed another home in the 2800 block of South Houston Drive, one block over, engulfed in flames.

The La Marque Fire Department responded to the South Houston Dr. and called for assistance from the Texas City and Hitchcock fire departments to get control of the fire.

According to Briggs, the house on South Houston Dr. was undergoing renovation work, but initial evidence revealed that accelerants believed to be gasoline were used to start that fire.

There were no injuries reported at either scene.

Briggs stated that the fire and the gasoline-soused home are possibly connected.

The La Marque Fire Marshal Office is pursuing leads.

If anyone has information, they're urged to call the Fire Marshal's Office at (409) 938-9267 or make an anonymous tip call La Marque Crime Stoppers at (409) 938-8477.
