A young woman was found fatally shot in a southwest Houston field on Sunday.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Homicide detectives are on a scene in a remote field in southwest Houston where a person was found shot to death on Sunday afternoon.

Officers said an oil worker discovered a young female body on a service road. Investigators have yet to determine her age and how many times she was shot.

The body was found around 3 p.m. in the 16100 block of Blue Ridge Road.

"We have very limited information right now. We have a young female," Houston Police Department Lt. Larry Crowson said. "We're not sure if she's an older juvenile or young adult that's dead on the scene from gunshot wounds. That's all we have right now."

Investigators have yet to identify the victim.

In addition to detectives, the medical examiner is on scene. Both are working to determine if she was dumped in the field or shot there.
