Texas wife carrying championship held in Richmond
River Pointe Church near Richmond hosted its fourth annual wife carrying championship Saturday afternoon

RICHMOND, TX (KTRK) -- What better way to show your love than to carry your spouse on your back in nearly 100 degree heat? A lot of husbands are probably icing down sore muscles after taking part in the Texas Wife Carrying Championships.

The competition was held today in Richmond. This year's course had new obstacles and water hazards. Competitors we talked too had a good time.

"We actually got drug into it by some friends who wanted somebody to watch their kid while they did it. So here we are," said competitor Brad Junker.

"It is a bouncy ride. It's hard to pep talk him and encourage him because you're bouncing upside down," said competitor Stephanie Junker.

"She squeezed the life out of me but we finished, safe, healthy. That's all I ask for," said competitor Kendrick Releford.

The World Wife Carrying Champions from Finland, Taisto Miettinen and Kristiina Haapanen, flew in from Finland for this event. You guessed -- they won it all.
