Heat and your home
With temperatures hovering high, your biggest investment might be at serious risk.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- With temperatures hovering high, your biggest investment might be at serious risk.

Contractors told Eyewitness News extreme heat can damage homes if you do not pay close attention. We caught up with Milton Court with Lonestar Contracting Service. Court said with an attentive eye and armed with the tell-tale signs, you can spot problems early and save yourself money in the long run.

Court told our cameras the biggest danger is foundation separation. He told us if you notice cracked earth close to where your landscaping and foundation meet, you should take caution. He said if it is serious, your exterior walls could crack and potentially damage pipes.

"One of the suggestions we make is properly mulching your landscaping," said Court. "Using misters to apply the moisture. It lasts longer and helps with concerns over foundation separation."

Court suggested performing your own informal inspection. Walk around your home, check out the exterior walls and look for any cracking. If you feel your home might have an issue, consult a professional.
