HOUSTON WEATHER: Heat advisory possible Thursday, storms this weekend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A heat advisory will likely be issued for parts of southeast Texas Thursday. Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog says the temp hit 96 Wednesday afternoon with a heat index of 111.

Triple digit heat will expand across Texas Thursday, pushing our highs into the upper 90s. Heat index values could reach 112-degrees, putting us into a heat danger zone.

The heat will abate some this weekend and Monday as scattered downpours cool off some Houston area neighborhoods. After the storms clear out, Travis says a thick cloud of dust from African's Sahara Desert will turn the sky hazy gray for a few days next week.
