Flood waters surround home, forcing horses to take refuge on home's porch.

SIMONTON, TX (KTRK) -- About a dozen horses are stranded as a home has become an island in flood waters near Simonton.

The Brazos River is out of its banks, above 'major flood stage' and still rising. The horses are huddled on the only dry ground to be found in the area - the front porch of the home.

Mandatory evacuation orders are in effect for residents in Simonton and Rosenberg, and a voluntary evacuation order is in effect for some folks in Missouri City.
